Spring Long Weekends in Europe: A Traveler's Guide to Seamless Comfort and Style

As the frost of winter thaws and the first blooms of spring make their appearance, Europe awakens with a kaleidoscope of experiences, perfect for those lovely long weekends. From the historic streets of Lisbon to the serene landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, Europe offers a mosaic of destinations, each with its unique charm and allure... Here are some of our absolutely favourites...

Lisbon: A City of Seven Hills and Sweet Delights

We absolutely love Lisbon for its vibrant energy and the iconic pastel de nata. Amid the hustle and bustle of this coastal capital, there's a quaint spot, Castro, renowned for serving the best custard tarts in town. Their version, with its flaky crust and creamy, rich filling, is a testament to Lisbon's culinary prowess. But Lisbon's appeal extends beyond its sweets. The city's mosaic pavements, historic tramways, and hilltop vistas provide a picturesque backdrop for any springtime adventure.

Amsterdam: Tulips in Bloom and Canalside Joys

Spring in Amsterdam is synonymous with tulips. The Keukenhof Gardens, just a short trip from the city, become a riot of colours, drawing visitors from all corners of the globe. Back in the city, the canals become the stage for leisurely boat tours, offering a unique perspective of Amsterdam's historic architecture and blooming gardens. The city's myriad of museums, from the Rijksmuseum to the Anne Frank House, offer a deep dive into history and culture, making Amsterdam a multifaceted gem in Europe's crown.

Edinburgh: Cultural Riches and Natural Beauty

Scotland's capital, with its dramatic skyline dominated by the Edinburgh Castle, is a city that seamlessly blends history with modern vibrancy. The Royal Mile, a historic thoroughfare, leads visitors through a journey of Scottish heritage, culminating in the ancient castle. Spring brings a fresh lease of life to the city's public spaces, like the Princes Street Gardens, offering a lush, green retreat in the heart of the city. I am not going to lie, we absolutely love finding the underground cocktail bars on those still cold evenings.

Paris: A Romantic Spring Awakening

Paris in spring is the epitome of romance. The city's gardens, from the Tuileries to Luxembourg, are in full bloom, creating an enchanting setting for leisurely strolls. Sidewalk cafés come alive, offering the perfect perch to enjoy a café au lait and watch the world go by. Cultural enthusiasts will find no shortage of attractions, from the Louvre's vast collections to the avant-garde exhibitions at the Pompidou Centre. And no visit to Paris is complete without a sunset view from the steps of Sacré-Cœur, overlooking the city's rooftops.

Rome: An Eternal Spring

Rome's ancient ruins and cobblestone streets are bathed in the soft light of spring, offering a serene backdrop for exploring the Eternal City. The Spanish Steps, adorned with azaleas, become a popular spot for both locals and tourists, embodying the city's springtime spirit. A leisurely walk through the Roman Forum, with its stories of empires past, contrasts with the vibrant energy of the Campo de' Fiori market, where fresh produce and Italian delicacies abound. Rome's many piazzas become open-air lounges, ideal for savouring gelato or a glass of Prosecco as the day wanes.

Barcelona: Modernism and Mediterranean Breezes

Barcelona's architectural wonders, from the whimsical creations of Antoni Gaudí to the Gothic Quarter's medieval charm, are best explored in the mild spring weather. The city's beaches begin to buzz with activity, while the hills of Montjuïc offer panoramic views and verdant gardens. The spring season is also a time for festivals, with Sant Jordi's Day bringing books and roses into the streets, celebrating Catalan culture and the joy of giving. Don't forget to stop off at Casa Lolea our fave place for drinks and the best truffle orzo you have ever had in your life.
